These holidays we have passed them in San Sebastian, and as every summer for a few years, we have returned to stay in Maddiola, a farmhouse located in the monte Igeldo, in a hamlet of new construction in which every detail is thought out and well thought out.
House stands on the Cantabrian Sea, and the first thing that draws attention to see it is the serenity that follows, sensation whose merit share equally balanced architecture of the building and the garden that surrounds it and welcomes.
In the Garden we see how wood takes a leading role, whether in the hurdles that they delimit him, as in some logs that have been used as decoration, one of them placed horizontally and the other planted vertically, on both sides of the driveway. Wood is also the flowerpots that house plants striking red-flowered delimiting the path that leads to the door.
The House responds to the aesthetics of a Basque farmhouse with modern touches, as the windows triangular giving light to the living room, that also serves as dining room each morning. A wooden door leads to the ground floor, where a receiver distributes the passage between the kitchen that prepares the breakfast, the living room, and rooms. This space is often a friendly point of talk with the owners of the hotel, and is decorated with elements that create a magical atmosphere, antique phones, puppets, soft light lamps…
Overcome the receiver, entered the room, a wide space with lots of light, in which two sofas form the seating area, oriented towards the mantel with wood mouthpiece. The walls are stained in a warm yellow, painted with a technique that is repeated in the rooms and that gives them a natural texture.
After the seating area there are several round tables where breakfast, write, or do tertulia. A few natural fiber chairs with high backrests give good seat and mark the character of this room. On one side is the access to the Gallery, which overlooks the Cantabrian Sea. Three small tables or bedside tables, accompanied by a formidable wall of stone are lined up next to the window. A brick arch gives access to the Hall in which are distributed the rooms, each with the name of a coastal town.
The bedrooms are simple and pleasant, decorated with dark wood furniture and with little decoration on the walls, that alone are protagonists. The bed is dressed with a quilt of cotton, a tissue that is present also in the headboard, two foam plates fastened and suspended from a bar, a solution that works when it comes to rest on the bed, watching television or reading.
The room lighting It is another supplement that emphasizes its friendly character. There are several points of light that can be combined to go from soft lighting to a complete.
The bathrooms are above all practical, each decorated in a different colour and in the same style. Separated from the room by a sliding door of rustic style, boast what is strictly necessary, shower cabin, a sink with a semi-circular countertop in this case in green tones, coordinated with tile walls.
Our bedroom overlooking the sea, enjoying this wing of the House of three adjoining terraces separated by large pieces of wood that provide privacy. Three others in the back of the House private gardens with own output, from which you can see many grazing animals in the Meadow.
